it's the sun

Well the big day out is over! How about that. The Polyphonic Spree were just incredible. 25 people on stage, and all of them getting into it so much. Such a massive sound. Here's the drummer going fucking nuts. This is from Auckland though:

I also managed to snare one of the setlists they had onstage. A brilliant catch it was. So it joins my list of special concert moments, which are:
  • Getting hit in the head with an ice-cube from a cup kicked by Lars of Metallica
  • Giving Les Miserables of TISM a noogie
  • Getting a Polyphonic Spree setlist of their first ever show in Australia. (I can talk it up)
Also saw Monster Zoku Onsomb! on the tiniest stage. They didn't have an angle grinder though. Apparently Eliza got up on stage with them and asked the guy in the gorilla suit if he liked TISM. He said "oh yeah". Also, Stackey managed to touch The Hives singer. Which is quite a feat when you're at the main stage.

Spiderbait were rather fun to watch. After them i dashed off to the main stages and saw Grinspoon as I tried to get into the front barricade for Slipknot. I couldn't get in. So many psycho Slipknot fans painted in black and red wearing black shirts tried to get in. So i watched Slipknot from a rather shite position. Their stage looked great, lots of pentagrams. And that clown guy had a baseball bat, hehe.

For System of a Down I didn't have the best view either. But that guy can sure sing, as well as crap on about the prison system in the US. Geez, John Butler has played already.

After my terrible ordeal on the main stages I went to the smaller stage and sat down and saw Regurgitator. But I couldn't care less, I was just waiting for Polyphonic Spree.

So yes, I had a great day and I didn't get sunburnt very much. Huzzah. And I took a day off work. I'll have to go tomorrow, which I'm not looking forward to, or uni this year really. It's my last year and I've got a big thesis to do, and it makes me quite apprehensive and I question whether I really like what I do at uni and gee what a big sentence I'll end it. I've gotta stay positive, but it's so hard. So hard. Just hang in there.

I don't know what I want to do in life.

eternal sunshine on my pale, pale skin

Going to the coast on Saturday was fun, although putt putt wasn't nearly as fun as I imagined it. At least we tried it. I also went swimming for the first time in a long time. It felt really good. I feel a little sunburned, so I'm worried how I'll fare next Sunday. Yeesh, I'll be cooked. Today I saw Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Very interesting and bizzare. I've been wanting to see that for a long time. I love the music in it.

That's all I spose, I feel very exhausted. I don't want to go to work tomorrow. It just seems so pointless. I wanna lie down. I wanna lie down forever.

hottest 100

Here are my current votes for Triple J's hottest 100:
  • trouble maker - machine gun fellatio
  • hold me now - polyphonic spree
  • two thousand places - polyphonic spree
  • sunshine drive, the - spazzys, the
  • kiss of life - supergrass
  • diffident strokes - tism
Go tism! Anyway, I'm looking forward to this trip down the coast we're having on Saturday. I don't know what we're gonna do besides playing putt putt and doing nothing on the beach. Meh, we'll have fun whatever we do I spose. Kristy is down there at the moment. I hope she's having a good time. I'm thinking about her a lot lately.

bdo

The timetable for the Gold Coast big day out is rather clashy. It's a toss up between Beastie Boys or The Polyphonic Spree. I'll see Polyphonic Spree. sigh. I'll also have to miss out on The Streets to see System of a Down. Grrrrr. It's annoying having such big acts clashing like that.

Anyway this is what I'll be seeing on the day in this order:
  • Frenzal Rhomb
  • The Donnas
  • Monster Zoku Onsomb or The Hives
  • Spiderbait
  • Grinspoon
  • Slipknot
  • System of a Down
  • Regurgitator
  • The Polyphonic Spree
  • Chemical Brothers (the last hour of em)
So that's alright I spose. Not finishing the day at the main stage will be weird. But it won't be as crowded there so that's cool. After Polyphonic Spree I spose I'll lie on the grass and watch Chemical Brothers from a great distance.

Also note that this bdo doesn't include Rammstein. Major disappointment there.

Actually when you think about it, the bdo is good value. (It's good value when you get it for christmas) For less than the cost to see Metallica, I'll be seeing infinitely better bands play. Fantastic. That's why it sells out. Although single concerts are definitely worth it. TISM was anyway.
